Day 20 Find Rest

Matthew 11:28

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Rest is one thing that I never seem to get enough of, and if I am honest I feel guilty at times for even needing it. I am the Mom. It is my job to make sure that my husband and kiddos have all that they need and a lot of their wants too. I need to be on my A game, and to be a fully present wife and mom. But I do need rest. If I am not taking the time to rest, than I am not going to be able to give my family the best of myself. I will be tired, cranky, over-extended and unglued. I will not be loving, kind or encouraging. I want to love well, and in order to love well, I need to make sure that I am getting the rest that I need. I need to make sure that I am spending quiet time with God, and that my love tank is filled. So, I can share that love with my husband, children, and others that I meet.

This is day twenty of 31 Days of Scripture and Song. Today’s prompt was the word weekend. You can learn more about the #write31days challenge here.

Day 19 of Scripture and Song Should Have Been Me

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

The days that I am cranky and irritable, if I take a moment and really consider the reason that I am in a bad mood; I will usually realize that I have not stopped to take time to notice the many reasons that I have to be thankful. All I need to do is take a moment and look around and I will see so many blessings, and even thinking of five things for which I am thankful can greatly improve my mood. My children’s laughter is a sound that I hear often that I will never get tired of. I love to walk outside  and look at the mountains that I can see from my backyard. My children and I love music, and will have music softly playing in the background most of the day. I could go on and on, but now my five minutest is almost up. I need to pause and notice the beauty and the good things in life. The days fly by to fast if I do not take the time to notice the world around me.

Day 18 of Scripture and Song With Every Act of Love

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10

Let us do good to all people. This is a really weighty command, especially when it is so easy to get focused on our own desires. It takes effort, intention, and surrender to the Holy Spirit to put the needs of others ahead of our own. Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and then he shows us how by example. I love that Jesus spent three years in ministry cleaning up messes that He did not make. The whole reason He was here was in the first place was to create a bridge between us messed up sinful humans and our Holy, Perfect Heavenly Father. When we show acts of love, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we bring the kingdom come.

Day 17 of Scripture and Song Brother

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers Acts 2:42

When I read that the word was study for today, I thought of the the verse from Acts referenced above. Every time that I read Acts 2, I think it must have been amazing to be a part of an Acts 2 church. I am very blessed to have have ladies in my church that are like sisters to me. These ladies pray for me, send me Bible verses, give my children and myself rides to Bible studies and park play dates. They are not perfect, but they love me and my children so well. I want to live like that. I want to encourage, show love, and live out the Gospel in my daily life. I love the  chorus of this song. I want to be the kind of friend that can be called  on a rough day. I want to love like Jesus does.

Day 16 of 31 days of Scripture and Song Slow Down

Mark 9:37

“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

I am a mother of three small children, tow of which are two young to understand the concept of privacy yet. This means if I don’t lock the bathroom door, I will be barged in on. Usually by a child wanting a glass of water. I have learned there is truth in the adage, “The days are long but the years are short.” I remember the days when my oldest Princess was a baby. It seems like it was yesterday, but it was seven years ago. I know that one day sooner than I think I will miss these little years, and I want to make memories that my husband, children, and I will treasure all of our lives.

Day 15 of 31 days of Scripture and Song Dare You to Move

Philippians 3:12 “Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” (NASB)

When I read that today’s prompt was move, I thought, “Oh, I should have wrote about Toby Mac’s song today. I then started to think about other songs that really impact me that are about the idea of moving forward. My favorite lyric in this song is,

“The tension is here                                                                                                                             The tension is here                                                                                                                             Between who you are
And who you could be
Between how it is
And how it should be yeah”

I honestly think that anytime I hear something or read something, and think, “That is not right.” I feel the tension this song describes. The tension that the song describes is a part of this fallen world. I am so thankful that as the song later describes, “Salvation is here.”  All God is waiting for is for us to move toward Him, and walk with Him on our journey through this broken world.

Day 14 The Words I would say #FMFParty Mail

John 20:31

but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

I love mail. Okay, I don’t love bills or the weekly circular from the grocery story. I love letters. My mother-in-love has a pen pal (her high school best friend) ,and they have been writing each other for over forty years. I think that is amazing. I communicate with friends and family via email and even Facebook, but I still think old fashioned letters are such a gift, and I hope that they are never phased out by email, text or any other form of communication that may come along. I love the fact that the Bible is God’s love letter to us. He didn’t leave us wandering around trying to figure everything on our own. He gave us His word, and His Holy Spirit.  I am so thankful that, “He gave His Son. He sends His Love.”-Point of Grace

This is day 14 of 31 day of scripture and song and is based on the word Mail. Today is Friday, so, It is also the Five Minute Friday post for the week. You can learn more about 31 days of five minute free writes at this link.

31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes Day 13 Do Everything

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6;19-20

Am I really aware of what I am working for? Of who as a stay-at-home mom, I am working for? The above verse reminds me that I exist to bring glory to God. My whole goal in life should be to worship God in the way that I live my life. I want my children to know what is important to me by the way that I live my life. I want my children to remember that I loved God, loved their Dad, loved them, and loved others outside our family well. I want to glorify God in everything that I do. Washing dishes may not seem very glorious, but when done with a heart of worship, it can be glorious to God.

Day 12 of 31 Days of Scripture and Song Touch the sky

“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,
who rides across the heavens to help you
and on the clouds in his majesty

Deuteronomy 33: 26

I learned something new today. When I first read this verse I did not know who Jeshurun referenced. So, I looked it up, and now I know that it is a poetic name for Israel. The song below is one of my favorites. It came to mind as I was awed by the beauty of God’s creation while standing at the top of Pikes Peak with my family. It does not surprise me that the song “America the Beautiful” was written about this place. My children were talking as we drove up and back about how close the clouds looked to us from that high of an altitude. The amazing miracle is that each time I pray I touch the sky as the song references. God gives us life, when we lay our plans, dreams, and desires down. I need to remember this more often, and instead of being focused on myself, be open to God’s leading and work in my life.

Day 11 of Scripture and Song Thank You

Psalm 136New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.
11 and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.

13 to him who divided the Red Sea[a] asunder
His love endures forever.
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it,
His love endures forever.
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
His love endures forever.

16 to him who led his people through the wilderness;
His love endures forever.

17 to him who struck down great kings,
His love endures forever.
18 and killed mighty kings—
His love endures forever.
19 Sihon king of the Amorites
His love endures forever.
20 and Og king of Bashan—
His love endures forever.
21 and gave their land as an inheritance,
His love endures forever.
22 an inheritance to his servant Israel.
His love endures forever.

23 He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
24 and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.
25 He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.

26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever

What else could I write today with the prompt word thanks other than a list of a few of the things that I am thankful for on this beautiful day in October.

My children love that the leaves are changing color and falling.

I am thankful that my youngest Cuddle Bug loves horses.

I am thankful that my husband had Monday off of work, and that we had a relaxing long weekend.

I am thankful that we took our kids to the aquarium and botanical gardens this weekend. Our favorite animal in the aquarium was a tiger shark, but the sting rays, sea horses, and pufferfish were greatly appreciated too.

I am thankful that we went out for a yummy lunch yesterday at our favorite restaurant.

I am thankful for Netflix time with my husband after the kids go to bed.

I am thankful to be Mom to three beautiful creative amazing kids! (I am biased I know.)

So what are you giving thanks for today?
