Mom, how I wish I was spending this holiday sitting on the couch with you in your “pout room” (My Dad christened this room as such, because he said the room which is not much bigger than a closet was only big enough for someone to pout. You made it into your home office, your own bit of space that was all your own in the house.) We would be watching some chick flick that we were only halfway paying attention to, because we would be talking about far more important things, and your grandkids would be running into the room every few minutes to make sure that we weren’t doing something fun without them. I wish I could go back, and tell my teenage and young adult self how great it was that my mom was my best friend. I may have listened to you more, and tried to better understand your perspective. Even if I didn’t fully realize as a teenager, I do know now that I am blessed to have an amazing mom, and my kids have a wonderful grandma. Thank you loving your children and grandchildren well, and never being too busy for me when I call. I love you, Mom!
This is Five Minute Friday, where we are supposed to write on the topic of the week for Five Minutes. I got carried away talking about my amazing Mom, and typed way past the five minute mark. You can learn more about the Five Minute Friday community here..
Great tribute to your mom.

Jo, this is jut so moving…and I bet you did realize, deep down, way back in teen-dom, that your Mom was really your best friend.
And maybe she realized it enough for the both of you.

Yes, I wish I valued her opinion more back then. I may have been less worried about what my classmates thought about me. Thank you for stopping by.

How can you not get carried away writing about your mom when you were so blessed to have a mom like her. I can relate.

Yes, and I want to be a Mom like her to my own kids. I always knew my mom loved me, and I want them to always know that I love them. Thank you for stopping by.

Aww! How awesome to have an awesome mom! My mommy is amazing, too. She’s our school librarian (even though she retired from teaching ten years ago) and just the other day one of my students told us, “You guys look like sisters!”
